Very nearly perfect, 2010-08-09
I must confess to being a bit of a coffee snob, and yet despite this, I've always been a bit wary of buying a french press. This was for two reasons: First, it seemed a bit technologically advanced for me. And second, I'm a 'brew a pot of coffee and drink it over several hours' kind of chap, and as there is no heating element to keep this warm once coffee is brewed into a french press, you've got to drink it now.
So let's cover concern one: I'm embarrassed at how easy it is to use this. I generally grind my own coffee, and do so on the course setting. But on days when I'm feeling particularly lazy, I use regular ground coffee 'for all coffee makers.' Add coffee to the french press, and then add not-quite boiling water. Stir. Allow to 'seep' for four or five minutes. Plunge down slowly. Pour and enjoy. Don't be scared; trust me on this one.
Concern two is why I really love this Bodum. Like the coffee pot in my office at the university, there is no heating element on this; it's simply an insulated container. And while it does not keep coffee quite as hot for quote as long as I would like, I must confess that it does a better than adequate job. (by the by, I drink my coffee out of an insulated coffee cup, too, so I drink it rather slowly, thus giving the coffee stilli n the french press more time to cool).
A tip I learned on here; once you are done pouring the coffee, twist the top so that the slots that allow the pour are to the side; I've found this helps keep the coffee hotter longer.
If you had my two concerns, I highly recommend this French Press. My coffee maker is now in a box in the basement. And this stunning until remains on the counter. If you love coffee, you will not be disappointed with this.
Like it very much - So far..., 2010-07-25
My title is due to writing an very good review for the Nissan thermos insulated french press, then after owning it for a year changed my mind, but thats another review! anyway, So far so good. It seems to keep coffee hot for as long as we need it to be and there are no grounds in the coffee. My only suggestion would be a little sturdier top. Its a little cheesy compared to the rest of the pot. I am Very happy with the rubber gasket around the mesh screen - but we'll see how long and well that works....
Great Coffee Pot, 2010-05-18
After many disasters with glass beaker versions,I decided to purchase a non-breakable version. This coffee pot, not only is it aesthetically pleasing, it works very well. I really like the all-in-one filter, after the glass version has 3 pieces. The filter works efficiently. Not sure for how long the pot holds the temperature, as I use it straight away. Also love that I can put it in the dishwasher. I put the pot on the bottom rack. The filter and plunger go on the top rack. The instructions included were for the glass version, so I was unsure about putting items in the dishwasher. So far no problems! I really love this pot !
Bodum vs. Frieling, 2010-05-17
I have owned the Bodum, Columbia 51 ounce French press for 5 years now. It is beautiful. However, I am finally disposing of it, and trading UP to the Frieling. The main reason; the rubber-edged gasket plunger of all the Bodum designs wears out, and you get coffee grounds in your pour!
The Frieling and Thermos/Nisan French presses have all-steel plunger-edges that will not wear out as easily (although the steel mesh does need to be maintained). These non-rubber designs simply work better. Plus, the Frieling design is also quite attractive and has a better.
great product, 2010-04-02
I got this stainless steel plunge pot/french press several years ago after 2 glass ones broke. It's still in excellent shape, keep coffee warmer longer, and makes far superior coffee than drip coffee makers. And it looks very nice on the counter.
