Deffective, 2010-07-15
The one I received didn't work. I even tried it with just one cable in and one cable out and received no sound. When my 360 was plugged directly into the receiver, I had sound. I then connected it through the splitter with nothing else -> no sound. I first tried connecting both my 360 and PS3 and received no sound from either. I kept one device off with the other on as other reviews suggested and no sound. Returned for refund.
works for me, 2010-06-29
I hesitated to buy this after reading some reviews. It seems that experiences vary, but mine was good. I am splitting the feed from a new (2010) Panasonic TV to an amp and the base station of a pair of wireless headphones. I have a 3 ft cable from TV to splitter, and 6 ft cables from splitter to amp and splitter to headphones. Do make sure each connection is tight.
yes, it works backwards, forward and any other way you want., 2010-06-29
Product worked just as I had hoped. I have my PS3 and my xbox360 going into splitter and then splitter going into single receiver and they both have sound. Very pleased as I had read by other users this would not work. Thankfully it does for me and now I do not have to switch my optical out every time I use one of the consoles. SO if this is your main goal with this it works. One thing to note though. You cannot have both on at the same time or else it wil nto work. This means, some hardware leaves the optical on even when the hardware power is off (IE cable box/sattelite receiver) and in this case it will not work. But if you wanna handle the PS3 and 360 at once, go for it!
R U Setting This Up Right?, 2010-06-19
I've had this splitter for a week now with both my PS3 Slim and the new XBOX360 Slim hooked up to it. This thing works flawlessly! I'm not sure how everyone else is setting this splitter up, but I have both hooked into it with another optical cord connected to a receiver for my Tritton headphones. The sound is crisp and clear for both! I have had no audio interruption/static whatsoever.
Lastly as other reviewers have suggested-make sure you are using one source at a time. If you use both at the same time, then they will cancel each other out, thus no sound.
Stop plugging in/out optical inputs! Get this splitter if you have 2 optical sources-you will not regret it.
Great alternative to a selector unit, 2010-06-14
Like another reviewer, I hooked this up backwards so that my PS3 and Xbox 360 both feed into it and the splitter combines them into 1 line going into my receiver (which has no HDMI and only 2 optical inputs) One audio input is already in use from my DVR box so I was having to manually reach back and switch the optical audio cable from the xbox to the PS3 depending on which one I wanted to use. those days are over.
It works perfectly. I use this in conjunction with the $15 HDMI splitter so basically, when I turn on the Xbox, the HDMI splitter automatically switches over to that and the optical audio goes to the receiver and out the speakers. Switch on the PS3 and the HDMI switcher automatically switches over to it and optical audio comes from the PS3 (xbox is turned off).
I haven't tried having both the xbox and ps3 on at once. Not sure if the optical audio signal would get confused or what.
For what this unit costs though, it and the 3 way HDMI splitter saved me hundreds of dollars I would have to otherwise had to spend on a new receiver with 3 hdmi inputs. I know eventually I'll upgrade but my trusty Denon still has amazing audio quality. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
