Much Improved Over the Years!, 2010-07-29
I have been using Norton for years now and Norton 360 4.0 is by far the best version yet. It is a central application that lets me feel secure in everything I do online. The newest version is streamlined with a great looking interface and changes in the application so that it is no longer a resource hog. For years Norton used more and more resources, killing my computer whenever I wanted to do anything. This would cause me to cancel many of the system scans just so I could continue to work. No more with 360 4.0! I can't even tell when it begins a system scan. The entire application is so hands off I never have to worry about checking in on it. Schedule the settings when you first install it and Norton runs on auto-pilot with automatic updating. Most importantly, I have never had any viruses or other malware break through Norton's defenses! I can't think of anything negative to say about this program. Invest for peace of mind!
Faulty & Unreliable, plus Bad Customer Service, 2010-07-17
I bought this software to protect me during all my blogging and surfing. However, despite having Norton, I managed to get a serious virus that would redirect my browser to adult web sites and try to shut my computer down. I called Norton but they could not help me ....FOR FREE. LOL. Even though I am a paid user and they claim to be so protective, they don't take ressponsiblity when their protection fails; they will not help customers when an infection breaks through THEIR faulty system -- unless you pay them $40.
They offered to charge me to tell me how to remove the virus. ARe you kidding? This is a failure in your program. You claim to constantly update your virus protection. You should be indebted to me. I declined and went on the tech geek forum where I learned how to debug my computer by using a FREE removal tool -- Malwarebytes Antimalware. Now if this software company can help me for free, why can't Norton who already has my subscription money?
They obviously don't pride themselves on being true security or having fulfilling customer service. How secure is it if a virus can get through? Malwarebytes ended up removing 200 things that Norton missed.
Let me tell you what I LIKED about Norton -- the identity protection program. It would save all my logins so that I would not have to worry about remembering them -- and I belong to a LOT of forums, blogs, news sites, etc. Well, that was BEFORE. AFter the latest upgrade, Norton's Identity program doesn't even bother to remember some new sites I've joined.
When I noticed every now and then it would not prompt me to save a password, I'd open the program to see if I could manually tell it to save the login. I couldn't.
This is an insanely faulty product with a company that cares little about its customers which it merely sees as cash cows.
Works perfect with Windows 7, 2010-07-15
I have been using this product for 5 months on my Windows 7 computer and it has worked perfect. I didn't have any problem installing it and it has found a few malware programs that my previous internet security software did not even notice. It does not slow down my computer and I don't even notice when it is scanning in the background. You can set it to automatically delete stuff it finds or program it to ask you what you want to do. It updates by itself and even cleans the temporary files off my computer that can build up and cause problems. I love this new version and would recommend anyone to use it.

At the end of a "subscription" Norton used to only disable updates for virus definitions. Now, they disable the sofware altogether, effectively making anti-virus coverage plunge from 100% to nothing after the subscription end date. Furthermore -- as happened to me on a business trip -- internet connection becomes difficult and inadvisable. By ceasing protection altogether Norton is putting a gun to the head of its customers, forcing them to renew by a specific date and in some cases having to purchase online at higher prices. IT technicians recommend AVG or freeware instead.
